According to new report, ECOWAS Commission has showed concern over the continued violent in Nigeria and the Commission made it position known in a press statement that released on Wednesday, titled: ENDSARS PROTESTS IN NIGERIA.
He expressed his feeling over the widespread violent and sporadic shooting towards the youth in Nigeria over police brutality.
ECOWAS Commission notes that, “in an effort to address the demands of the protesting youth, the Federal Government of Nigeria took important decisions regarding disbandment of SARS, comprehensive police reforms and investigation of cases of police brutality”.
So, therefore he urged the Nigerian Authorities to conduct the investigation rapidly before things get out of hands.
He appeals to the FG of Nigeria, and said the youth and civil society to urgently pursue dialogue for an early and amicable resolution of this social unrest.
Everything have to change now, maintain the Nigerian image as a bastion of a law and order.
“While ECOWAS Commission recognizes the right of citizens to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and protests, it also wishes to stress that those rights should be exercised in a non-violent manner.
However, ECOWAS Commission calls on all protesters to remain peaceful in the conduct of their demonstrations.
Regional Commission also urged Nigerian security operatives to exercise restraint over the issue, and ECOWAS Commission express its condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives during the protests.
