A statement was revealed by the ICC’s General Prosecutor as they seek to investigate into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.
But, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, said the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) aim to investigate security force in Nigeria over allegations of crimes against humanity and war crimes will only lead a setback to all internal security operations.
This issued was raised due to the several allegations of human rights abuses levelled against the country’s security forces in the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria.
President Buhari said, “There is no doubt that such statement and instigation can distract the Nigerian Army troops with its demoralizing effects.”
A statement signed by Acting Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sagir Musa and released yesterday in Abuja, Buratai said the move would have negative consequences on troops morale and interest in military service by Nigerians.
Buratai enjoins Nigerian Army troops to ignore the distractions and calls on the gallant troops never to be worried or demoralized by these moves.
