At this moment, World Trade Organization has confirmed that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed as the new Director-General.
The appointment was confirmed at a special meeting of the General Council, with the selection process that included eight candidates worldwide.
The tweet read: “Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.
“While her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.”
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, as a result of this, becomes the first woman and first African to lead the World Trade Organization.
