Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federal said that the Nigeria National Assembly don’t have the power to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to speak on security issues.
Femi Gbajabiamila, the House of Representatives led by the Speaker, summoned Buhari last week over the killing of over 43 farmers in Borno State and insecurity problem in the country.
But, Malami has responded to the summoned saying security matters remained the exclusive preserve of the executive arm of government.
“These powers and rights he does not share.
“So, by summoning the President on national security operational matters, the House of Representative operated outside constitutional bounds,” the statement read in part.
President Buhari can address the National Assembly whenever he want, but not to be summoned to do so, Malami said.
