
According to report from Mallma Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said yesterday that Nigeria was not constructing rail line to Niger Republic.
He added that, the main plan was to build the rail line up to the border Nigeria shares wth the neighbouring country but not into another.
While the Minister of Transportation, Mr.Rotimi Amaechi told State House on Wednesday that Federal Executive Council approved sum of $1.96billion for the construction of a rail line to link Kano, Dutse, Katsina and Maradi in Niger Republic.
There is a series of tweets posted on Shehu Twitter handle @GarShehu, following national wide outrage, yesterday clarified that Nigeria would only construct the rail line to the border but into the country itself…it shares with Niger Republic in Maradi.
“An agreement between Nigeria and Niger in 2015, coordinated by the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for Cooperation has a plan for Kano-Katsina-Maradi Corridor Master Plan, K2M as it is called.
“When completed, it will serve domestic industries and play the role of a viable transportation backbone to the West African sub-region, starting with the neighbouring Niger Republic for their export and import logistic chain.”
