The Young Progressives Party. YPP protests on Tuesday over a hike in fuel price and electricity tariffs in Abuja, calling on the Federal Government to take urgent steps towards the sufferings of a vast majority of Nigerians.
According to report from a statement issued after the protests, tagged: ‘Advocacy Walk for Good Governance,’ by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Martins Egbeola, the YPP also called for a reduction in the cost of governance, stating that the current structure of governance was no longer sustainable for the citizens.
The YPP party called for reduction in electricity tariffs and fuel price, added that they need transparency and accountability in the governance, electoral reform and restructuring of the country.
They also urged the government to cut down on the country’s recurrent expenditure in the budget to 50 per cent.
He said, “We want to call the attention of government on how the Nigerians are suffering and the burden is becoming too much to bear as things is very hard right now.
To look at it in a right way, it is insensitive to continue to increase taxes on the masses while the frivolous lifestyles of the ruling class remain uncharged.
Now is the time for the government to ease the cost and structure of governance as we are not comfortable with the present situation in the country, and it only wise that we embrace the reality of restructuring, else, it will only continue to get worse.
